The Little People
First Published September 9, 2013
I’ve
been married to my husband for 33 years.
Still, sometimes our communication wires get crossed. We act on misinformation, and then we have to
fix the undesired results. Lately, it
seemed like the wires weren’t even there. I needed to turn to the Bible for
guidance.
Matthew 17:5
While he was still speaking, a
bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold, a voice out the cloud said, “This
is My beloved Son, with whom I am well-pleased; listen to Him!”
Jesus
was a great communicator. He listened
and spoke well. Unfortunately we don’t
have him around to speak to us directly.
But we do have written excerpts as recorded in the Bible. And I can use His words as an example of how
to communicate better.
Luke 2:46-47
And it came about that after
three days they found Him in the temple,
sitting in the midst of the teachers.
Both listening to them, and asking them questions.
And all who heard Him were
amazed at His understanding and His answers.
Luke
2:52
And Jesus kept increasing in
wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
Listen.
Ask questions. Choose words wisely. Jesus did all these. Now I should do likewise. I’ve printed these verses and key words to
display around the house. I need lots of
reminders.
Oh,
you may want to know what the title of today’s devotion means. It could refer to height challenged
people. It could refer to economically
depressed people. It could refer to a
popular children’s toy. It could refer
to a family of people with the surname “Little”. It could refer to mythical beings associated
with rainbows and pots of gold. You
still don’t get it? Well, I’m still
working on improving my communication skills!
